What is an implant?
Dental implants are becoming an increasingly popular way to replace teeth.
They give patients the choices of restoring single missing teeth, multiple teeth and even getting patients out of dentures by providing them with permanent fixed bridges supported on only four implants.
Dental Implants are actually small titanium screws that are fixed into the jawbone. These act like the root of a natural tooth allowing us to place a dental crown (or tooth cap) securely over the implant.
This Dental Crown, made of robust porcelain or ceramic, will be professionally matched to the colour of your natural teeth.
Here at Moreton Dental Care we use Nobel Biocare and Implant Direct dental implant systems, allowing us to tailor dental implant treatment to the needs of each individual patient.
Implant treatments available at Moreton Dental Care
Dental implants can be used in a variety of clinical situations from replacing single and multiple missing teeth to securing bridges and dentures.
Moreton Dental Care offers the full range of implant treatment including the 'all-on-4' system which can secure a full arch of teeth using four carefully placed implants. This precludes the need for bone grafting thus lowering the cost of full mouth implant treatment.
Implant Options:
Single Tooth Multiple Teeth Complete Arch
Single Tooth
Single tooth implants can be used for people who are missing a single tooth.
The dental implant will be placed into the space of the missing tooth which prevents sacrificing the adjacent teeth from being drilled or prepared for a bridge.
A single Implant can make such a difference to your appearance

Multiple Teeth Bridges
If you have more than one tooth missing, dental implants
can beused to support bridgework.
This type of implant treatment does not rely on othernaturalteeth for support, and is very successful and secure.
Implant-retained bridges can also be very cost-effective as only two teeth are required to replace three teeth.
Complete Arch
Loose dentures? - Problem solved!
Dental implants can provide a life-changing solution to the problems of loose dentures that rub and click. Implants can be used to firmly secure the dentures in place, and is recognised as a huge improvement on traditional removeable dentures.
The benefits of implants are:
- No need for adhesives
- Facial structures are maintained because implants help to preserve the remaining bone
- Wrinkles around the mouth are minimised because lower lip support is restored
- The natural chewing function is restored
- The teeth have a natural appearance
A lower denture may only need 2 implants to give a complete life-changing transformation to your ability to chew foods, and to your appearance, allowing you to smile with confidence again.
All on 4
The All-on-4 dental implant treatment was developed to provide teeth for patients who have all their teeth missing.
This treatment is an efficient and cost-effective solution which uses only four implants to restore a full-arch with permanent fixed teeth.
The All-on-4 Dental Implant Placement procedure is scientifically proven and well documented as being successful.
The advantages of this treatment are:
- Fixed in teeth – no removing at night time or to clean
- Only four implants are needed to restore a whole arch
- High patient satisfaction
- Less expense than fractional implant treatments
- No need for adhesives
- Maintains facial structures by preserving the remaining bone
- Minimizes wrinkles around the mouth by restoring lost lip support
- Improves natural chewing capacity
- The teeth are secure and comfortable
- They have a natural appearance
Dental implants can also be used in a similar way to replace partial dentures.
Dental Implant Process
From the time you make your appointment to the completion of your treatment, the entire focus will be on your individual care and attention.
The implant process:
The time frame for completing implant treatment is normally three to six months,
and the patient will attend several appointments.
The implant procedure is as follows:
Initial consultation:
Before any work can be considered a comprehensive examination will be carried out by Mr Sherrard, who at this appointment will review your medical history and relevant dental history. Digital x-rays will be taken, which are vital as they provide information regarding bone conditions, width and depth of bone, nerve and sinus position. Then taking all this information into account an appropriate treatment plan and estimate would be drawn up.
Impressions to create study models may be taken, this it to examine the relationship of positional your teeth.
Consent:
If you have decided that you would like to go ahead with treatment and Mr Sherrard has agreed that you are a suitable candidate, you will be asked to read and sign a consent form. This is a written document which details what has been found during the initial examination and outlines the proposed treatment plan. A copy will be kept in your dental file, and a copy will be given for your record.
Implant placement:
On the day of placement you will be taken through to the surgery, which will be dressed with surgical drapes. The team will be wearing surgical scrubs, gowns, gloves hats and masks. You will be covered with a surgical drape and given a hat and eye mask to wear.
Implants are normally placed under local anaesthetic, but we can offer IV sedation to very anxious or nervous patients.
Once you are numb, a small incision will be made in the area where the implant will be placed. A small hole is drilled into the precise location of the intended implant. The implant is then placed in very carefully into this socket. The incision is closed with stitches to help with healing, and removed about a week later.
We now have to wait whilst Osseo-integration occurs, this means when the bone has grown into and fused with the implant. This normally takes three months.
Exposure of the implants:
This is normally carried out ten to twelve weeks after placement.
A small incision is made in the gum below the implant. Once we have checked the stability of the implant a small stud, called a healing abutment, will be then placed into the implant.
This will be the first time you will be able to see where your implant is.
Impressions for fitting:
Two weeks later very accurate impressions will be taken and sent to our laboratory, where they will make the very special tooth/teeth to complete your treatment. Allowing you to smile with confidence.
