Dr Paul Sherrard in Fell Hell charity run

Dr Paul Sherrard is set to take on a gruelling challenge in a bid to raise money for his next charity mission to Africa.

Dr Sherrard, principal dentist at Moreton Dental Care, is in training for the 10k Fell Hell event held on the slopes of Moel Famau on Sunday, November 16.

The money he raises will go towards buying the dental equipment he needs for his two-week trip to Uganda next summer where he hopes to relieve the toothache of hundreds of poverty-stricken villagers.

It will be the third trip he has undertaken as part of a medical team organised through the Heswall-based charity Rock of Joy which supports schools in deprived areas of the East African country.

Dr Sherrard has to take all the dental equipment he needs with him in a suitcase.  As well as meeting the huge demand for tooth extractions, he will also train local medical workers to enable them to continue offering dental care and preventive advice.

On a previous trip Dr Sherrard extracted 1,200 teeth in 10 days- the tooth decay in some patients was so bad they were suffering from life-threatening infections.

The villages the medical team will be visiting have no basic facilities like running water and electricity, and do not normally have access to dental or medical treatment.

Practice on shortlists for top awards

Staff at Moreton Dental Care are delighted to announce the practice is in the running for not one, not two, but THREE prestigious awards.

The awards, open to dental practices throughout the UK, are designed to recognise excellence in dentistry and to highlight those practices going the extra mile to provide a high calibre patient experience.

The practice is in the final seven for Best Practice-North West in the Dentistry Awards, and on the shortlist for Practice of the Year-North and Best Charity/Community Project in the Private Dentistry Awards.

The finals will take place later this year in Leicester and London.

Dr Paul Sherrard, principal dentist at Moreton Dental Care, said: “I am delighted we have got so far in these competitions. This is recognition for the tremendous hard work everyone puts in to the running of the practice. I am very proud of all the team.”

Stacey’s success in Tough Mudder event.

A big cheer for our intrepid practice manager Stacey Collins who raised more than £1,600 by completing the Tough Mudder challenge this month.

Stacey decided to tackle the muddy12-mile obstacle course for charity in memory of former patient Nick Pope who died of lung cancer earlier this year.

The money donated by patients, staff and friends, will go to the Liverpool-based Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.

Stacey, 32, said: “I have been amazed at everyone’s support and generosity. Donations are still coming in!”

The Tough Mudder course at Chomondley Castle, Cheshire, consisted of 25 obstacles involving ice, water, electricity and fire, and was designed by the UK’s Special Forces.
