Snap a winning smile in a selfie and a prize could be yours.

The great thing about a smile is it makes everyone much happier, so why not capture your smile in a selfie- it could be a winner!

An iPhone 6S and £2,000 of UK holiday park vouchers could be yours if you submit a selfie of your smile into a Denplan competition this month after a check-up with your Denplan dentist.

All the dentists at Moreton Dental Care are Denplan dentists, so take that selfie today and upload it via the website www.denplan.co.uk . Alternatively you can share it on Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #doitforyourselfie.

We have got mobile phones and selfie sticks available at the practice should you wish to use them.

Research has shown 5.6 million selfies are taken on average each day by adults in the UK while 74% of adults worry about how their teeth look in photographs.

We at Moreton Dental Care are passionate about helping patients achieve a healthy smile they can be proud of.   We’re encouraging everyone, not only Denplan patients, to share their smile with the world.

Denplan is the UK’s leading dental payment plan provider- they’ve been helping the public budget for their private dental care for nearly 30 years. Its member dentists now provide care for around 1.7 million patients.

The Denplan plan we offer at Moreton Dental Care is called Denplan Essentials. For £13.55 a month patients get two private check-ups and two private hygiene visits per year, upto 2 x-rays and 20% off all private treatment, excluding implants and orthodontics.

Denplan membership also includes holiday insurance to cover the cost of emergency dental treatment while away from home either in the UK or abroad.

Staff gear up for our Healthy Living day next week

Dentist Tam Haque (pictured) is practising his press-ups ready for our Healthy Living Day on Tuesday (Oct 6th) when patients and non-patients will have the chance to have a physical work-out as well as a check-up- thanks to a unique initiative.

A team of health and fitness experts from Wirral Community NHS Trust's Livewell team will be visiting Moreton Dental Care to give tips and advice on a wide range of health issues, as well as offering health checks.

And staff from Upton-based Gravity Health and Fitness club will be setting up a mini gym at the practice for the morning to enable visitors to try out some exercise machines and to receive guidance on ways to improve fitness.

The aim of the event, the first of its kind to be held at a Wirral dental practice, is to promote a message of health and wellbeing to patients and the local community.

The Livewell team supports local people to make positive lifestyle changes. They run a broad range of free health and wellbeing courses and activities at venues throughout the Wirral from healthy cookery and relaxation classes to fitness and weight management programmes. Livewell also offers help to people wanting to quit smoking.

Trainers from Gravity will demonstrate fitness techniques on a range of equipment,  including rowing and cycling machines, and will be giving away free day passes to their gym on the day.

Principal dentist Dr Paul Sherrard says the event is a great opportunity to get a healthy lifestyle message across to the local community.

“We as dentists are in a unique position to discuss with patients diet and lifestyle issues that affect both teeth and the whole body. A good example is sugar which can not only damage your teeth but also lead to weight issues and diabetes,” he added.

Dr Sherrard, himself a one-time smoker, is proud of the success he has had in encouraging patients to quit the habit which can cause gum disease.

The Healthy Living event at Moreton Dental Care, Hoylake Road, will run from 9.30 to 12.30.

Be MOUTHAWARE- Mouth Cancer can affect anyone

This is hygienist Kirsty Kelly, and you might be wondering why she's wearing blue lipstick-she's being MOUTHAWARE in support of Mouth Cancer Action Month (MCAM).

Mouth Cancer claims more lives than testicular and cervical cancer put together, but early detection gives patients a 90% chance of survival.

And a check-up with the dentist is the key to early detection.

Kirsty has joined in the Blue Lip Selfie campaign which is part of this year's MCAM to enable people to wear a visible sign of support.

Mouth cancer cases have trebled in the past 10 years, and can be triggered by smoking, drinking too much alcohol, poor diet and oral sex.

MCAM is organised by the British Dental Health Foundation, with Denplan as its main sponsor.   Go to www.bluelipselfie.co.uk for more details and to see a video of mouth cancer survivors and their experiences.

A regular check-up with the dentist includes screening for mouth cancer- this is one of the many reasons why regular check-ups are so important.

So if you keep putting off booking in for your 6-month checkup, why not get on the phone today and make an appointment.

Why not visit our Facebook page for more pictures of blue-lipped staff at MDC.

Dental care can be fun

A trip to the dentist might be at the top of every child's wish list, but Wirral youngsters gave the thumbs up after visiting an action-packed fun day at their local practice.

More than 100 excited youngsters, from toddlers to teenagers, got their teeth into a wide range of games and quizzes, all with an oral health theme, and came away with bags of goodies and prizes.

Dentists at Moreton Dental Care, with support from Wirral Community NHS Trust, laid on the four-hour session of free entertainment with the aim of encouraging youngsters to look after their teeth from an early age.

The move came after national reports last month highlighted that tooth decay is by the biggest reason why primary school children are admitted to hospital.

NHS data states that almost 26,000 children in England aged between five and nine were hospitalised for multiple tooth extractions in 2013-14 - almost 500 a week.

Youngsters visiting the day saw puppets demonstrate tooth cleaning, listened to dentists explaining how teeth decay, and learned about healthy eating by trying sugar-free snacks. They could also dress up as the dentist, have their faces painted and take part in competitions.

James Duckers, operational team leader with Wirral Community NHS Trust, praised the Moreton Dental team for doing a good job. "From our point of view any way we can encourage people to be a bit less resistant to getting their teeth checked and looking after the whole body has got to be a good thing. Advice like this can break down some of those barriers." said Mr Duckers.

Steve Williams, Wirral Councillor for Moreton West and Saughall Massie, described the fun day as "fantastic" and said the local authority listed promoting good oral health and tackling obecity as a top priority in its child welfare role in the borough. Wirral councillors Anita Leech and Trina Johnson also lent support by joining in the activities.

Principal dentist Paul Sherrard was delighted with the turnout on the day. Dr Sherrard said: "We've had an amazing response from the local community. We wanted youngsters to pick up a few health tips and have a bit of fun too, and judging by the number of children who turned up I think we achieved that."

He praised dental staff for their weeks of hard work planning the event, and local firms and dental companies, including DenPlan, who donated prizes and dental products.
