Principal dentist Paul Sherrard has won a prestigious national award for saving the life of a patient using dental implant treatment.
Judges of the Aesthetic Dentistry awards declared the testimonial given by Dr Sherrard's patient Flo Webb about her 'miraculous' experience as the most inspiring they had received.
They presented him with The Patients Choice award at a glittering ceremony in London on Friday after they heard Flo's account of how dental implants enabled her to eat again after months on a liquid diet.
Flo, 76,from Greasby, had been in a desperate state when she turned up at Moreton Dental Care. She had shed three stone in weight, down to just five stone, because she could no longer eat properly and was beginning to think she was beyond help.
Her previous dentist had removed her teeth but had been unable to make a denture that fitted her correctly. Doctors had threatened to put her on a drip because she was losing so much weight on the liquid diet.
Dr Sherrard solved her problem by securing a new lower arch of teeth with two implants, making them completely stable.
Said Flo: “I am absolutely overjoyed with the treatment. My whole life has been transformed by it. That young dentist Paul Sherrard literally saved my life. It is a miracle and I can never thank him enough. I can enjoy a Sunday roast again now, or go out for a meal.”
Staff at Moreton Dental Care threw a celebration tea party for Flo at the practice in Hoylake Road, Moreton, on Monday and presented her with flowers and a voucher for a meal for two at a local restaurant.
“I’m delighted with Paul’s success. It’s thoroughly deserved. The staff here feel like my family now,” added Flo who decided to try Moreton Dental Care after being recommended by a nurse friend who was concerned about her health.
Dr Sherrard said: “I’m delighted our team have been able to help Flo and have a such a big impact on her life. She is a delightful patient and we are all always pleased to see her.
“We’re all thrilled to win a national award- It’s all down to having a great team of staff to work with.”
