Welcome to the Moreton Dental Care 'latest news' section, where we will post regular updates from our dental practice, our charity work and developments in the dentistry world.
Dentist Tam Haque (pictured) is practising his press-ups ready for our Healthy Living Day on Tuesday (Oct 6th) when patients and non-patients will have the chance to have a physical work-out as well as a check-up- thanks to a unique initiative.
A team of health and fitness experts from Wirral Community NHS Trust's Livewell team will be visiting Moreton Dental Care to give tips and advice on a wide range of health issues, as well as offering health checks.
And staff from Upton-based Gravity Health and Fitness club will be setting up a mini gym at the practice for the morning to enable visitors to try out some exercise machines and to receive guidance on ways to improve fitness.
The aim of the event, the first of its kind to be held at a Wirral dental practice, is to promote a message of health and wellbeing to patients and the local community.
The Livewell team supports local people to make positive lifestyle changes. They run a broad range of free health and wellbeing courses and activities at venues throughout the Wirral from healthy cookery and relaxation classes to fitness and weight management programmes. Livewell also offers help to people wanting to quit smoking.
Trainers from Gravity will demonstrate fitness techniques on a range of equipment, including rowing and cycling machines, and will be giving away free day passes to their gym on the day.
Principal dentist Dr Paul Sherrard says the event is a great opportunity to get a healthy lifestyle message across to the local community.
“We as dentists are in a unique position to discuss with patients diet and lifestyle issues that affect both teeth and the whole body. A good example is sugar which can not only damage your teeth but also lead to weight issues and diabetes,” he added.
Dr Sherrard, himself a one-time smoker, is proud of the success he has had in encouraging patients to quit the habit which can cause gum disease.
The Healthy Living event at Moreton Dental Care, Hoylake Road, will run from 9.30 to 12.30.
