Welcome to the Moreton Dental Care 'latest news' section, where we will post regular updates from our dental practice, our charity work and developments in the dentistry world.
"My children do not always brush their teeth thoroughly. They rush, tell me they've brushed when they haven't and some days they're simply not interested in caring for their teeth," said one mum surveyed by Denplan, and a statement many mums would agree with.
Denplan's Big Summer Brush Up campaign is full of useful tips on how to make brushing fun for kids and get them to learn good oral health habits at the same time.
We're going to pass on a few of these tips here on our blog.
Dentist tip: it's common for children to rush through their brushing which means some of the teeth surfaces get missed. To help, get your child to imagine dividing their mouth into four main sections and brush each section for 30 seconds.
This means they're more likely to brush all the back teeth, and each tooth surface.
If you think they've missed any teeth, follow up by brushing their teeth yourself after they've finished.
To help reach the back teeth, get your child to pretend to be a lion or a dinosaur and give you a big roar! This helps them to open their mouth wide for you!
Dentist tip: choose a fun toothbrush with their favourite character on.
Dentist tip: make their own toothbrush holder by decorating a cup with stickers or coloured paper.
Dentist tip: brush to a special song.
Dentist tip: fill in a brushing reward chart. (Download a six week brushing chart from www.denplan.co.uk/bigsummerbrushup).
