Moreton Dental

Moreton Dental has not set their biography yet
Dentist's praise for Paul Sherrard's high quality work

A dentist has highly praised the work of our principal dentist Paul Sherrard after taking over the care of a woman who had been a long-standing patient at Moreton Dental Care.

The 50-year-old woman moved house recently and was unable to get to Moreton any more so Dr Sherrard referred her to a dentist close to her new home.

The dentist contacted Dr Sherrard after the patient’s first appointment and described her dental health as  “excellent”.

He also described the quality of crowns and a bridge which had been fitted by Dr Sherrard at least 20 years ago as ‘fantastic’.

The dentist told Mr Sherrard: “She speaks very highly and fondly of the care you provided for many years.

I took some bitewings (x-rays) recently and she is in perfect dental health, no treatment has been needed.

“The quality of her restorations is fantastic and I thought you would like to know. She has no caries or periodontal disease and excellent oral hygiene.

“She can't remember how old her crowns or fixed conventional bridge are but estimates 20 to 30 years. They are in excellent condition.”

Dr Sherrard said” I’m delighted to receive such praise from a colleague, and am particularly pleased that this lady was so happy with her

treatment. It also shows how having regular check-ups is the best way to keep your mouth healthy.”

The woman attended regularly for check-ups and hygiene appointments.

Sheena's Christmas smile

School cook Sheena Thomas has got her best Christmas present ever- her confidence back.

The 52-year-old from Prenton suffered for years with painful periodontal disease which caused her teeth to deteriorate.

About eight years ago she had to have four top teeth extracted. Not wanting a denture, she inquired about dental implants but was told she was not a suitable candidate.

She persevered with the denture which made her self-conscious, but her remaining teeth continued to deteriorate, so two years ago she inquired again about dental implants and was referred by her dentist to Dr Paul Sherrard.

After stabilising her gum condition, he was able to provide implant treatment for her-new upper and lower arches of teeth permanently secured by implants.

A delighted Sheena said: “It has completely changed my life.  It’s been an emotional journey and I just wish I could have had it done years ago,”

Sheena is now thrilled to be able to eat steak and apples again.

“I used to be terrified of going to the dentist, even to have my teeth cleaned because it was so painful. But here I’ve been made to feel at ease right from the start. Nothing has been too much trouble.”

She added: “I would recommend anyone with gum problems and is scared of the dentist to come here. It’s given me my confidence back. I feel like I’ve got back the teeth I had in my 20s.”

Dr Sherrard said: This was a massive decision for Sheena and it’s been a privilege guiding her through it to a happy conclusion.”

Amanda's dream smile

Amanda McGovern was so delighted with her new smile she signed up for a professional photo shoot.

Previously on photos Amanda, a company supervisor, says she looked like she had a missing tooth, due to a premolar being out of alignment.

Now after having just six months of orthodontic treatment the 23-year-old is smiling from ear to ear.

“It’s one of the best things I’ve ever done. Now I have the smile I always wanted,” said Amanda who explained the treatment had also dramatically improved her ability to chew.

Her newly straightened teeth gave her the confidence to have a photo shoot while on holiday..

Moreton Dental Care dentist Dr Tam Haque used Damon braces to straighten Amanda’s teeth, and she cannot praise him enough.

“My orthodontic treatment from start to finish was a pleasure,” said Amanda from Moreton.

Be MOUTHAWARE- Mouth Cancer can affect anyone

This is hygienist Kirsty Kelly, and you might be wondering why she's wearing blue lipstick-she's being MOUTHAWARE in support of Mouth Cancer Action Month (MCAM).

Mouth Cancer claims more lives than testicular and cervical cancer put together, but early detection gives patients a 90% chance of survival.

And a check-up with the dentist is the key to early detection.

Kirsty has joined in the Blue Lip Selfie campaign which is part of this year's MCAM to enable people to wear a visible sign of support.

Mouth cancer cases have trebled in the past 10 years, and can be triggered by smoking, drinking too much alcohol, poor diet and oral sex.

MCAM is organised by the British Dental Health Foundation, with Denplan as its main sponsor.   Go to www.bluelipselfie.co.uk for more details and to see a video of mouth cancer survivors and their experiences.

A regular check-up with the dentist includes screening for mouth cancer- this is one of the many reasons why regular check-ups are so important.

So if you keep putting off booking in for your 6-month checkup, why not get on the phone today and make an appointment.

Why not visit our Facebook page for more pictures of blue-lipped staff at MDC.

Dr Paul Sherrard in Fell Hell charity run

Dr Paul Sherrard is set to take on a gruelling challenge in a bid to raise money for his next charity mission to Africa.

Dr Sherrard, principal dentist at Moreton Dental Care, is in training for the 10k Fell Hell event held on the slopes of Moel Famau on Sunday, November 16.

The money he raises will go towards buying the dental equipment he needs for his two-week trip to Uganda next summer where he hopes to relieve the toothache of hundreds of poverty-stricken villagers.

It will be the third trip he has undertaken as part of a medical team organised through the Heswall-based charity Rock of Joy which supports schools in deprived areas of the East African country.

Dr Sherrard has to take all the dental equipment he needs with him in a suitcase.  As well as meeting the huge demand for tooth extractions, he will also train local medical workers to enable them to continue offering dental care and preventive advice.

On a previous trip Dr Sherrard extracted 1,200 teeth in 10 days- the tooth decay in some patients was so bad they were suffering from life-threatening infections.

The villages the medical team will be visiting have no basic facilities like running water and electricity, and do not normally have access to dental or medical treatment.
