All Smiles For The Under 12s

It's smiles all round at Wirral Schools FA after landing a new sponsorship deal for its latest team.

Moreton Dental Care has agreed to back the under 12s squad which has just played its first league match.

MDC's backing will go towards running costs for the young players who have been selected from teams across the borough.

The 17-strong team which trains at Bebington High School, will wear shirts bearing the practice logo.

The squad played its first match in the under 13s North West Trophy last night, coming back from 5-1 down to draw against Ellesmere Port School Boys.

MDC principal Dr Paul Sherrard agreed to the sponsorship deal because of the many benefits sport offers young people, particularly for their physical andmental wellbeing, and to support the local community.

Said Dr Sherrard:We're delighted to be sponsoring the boys and wish them the best of luck in their matches this season."

Another contributing factor was that midfielders Joe Collins and Ben Furlong are both regulars at Moreton Dental Care.

How to sparkle like Markle

Everyone will agree Meghan Markle has a gorgeous smile- so healthy and bright- but how did she achieve it? How can we ‘Sparkle With Markle’?

Dentists speculate as to whether she has had braces, veneers or some other cosmetic treatment, or whether she was born lucky with lovely straight teeth.

Two things we can be pretty sure about is that she’s had her teeth whitened and that she looks after her teeth very well indeed.

And for those reasons MDC felt there was never a better time to highlight the benefits of tooth whitening, and of Denplan.

The popularity of tooth whitening continues to soar- it’s in demand for that special occasion, such as a wedding, a special party, a holiday, or a job interview, or if you just want to boost the appearance of your teeth. Whiter teeth can brighten your smile, making you look younger and feel more confident.

Anyone booking in for tooth whitening at MDC from now until June 30th will have the chance to win a whitening top-up worth £56.  We will have a draw of names in early July.

Any Denplan patients visiting the hygienist this week will receive a wedding-themed goody bag, and all our current Denplan patients are being entered into our wedding-themed draw. Prizes include a luxury Owen Drew candle similar to the one he created as the Royal couple’s wedding gift, and a bottle of Nyetimber English sparkling wine from West Sussex which is being tipped as the tipple of choice for Saturday’s nuptials.

A Denplan care plan is an easy way to spread the cost of routine dental care. The main emphasis is on prevention, helping patients to keep their teeth in excellent condition and avoid any surprises. Patients signing up for our Denplan Essentials plan pay £14.55 a month which per year covers the cost of two private dental exams, two hygiene visits, all necessary x-rays and 20% of most other private treatment required, as well as preventive dental advice.

Snap a winning smile in a selfie and a prize could be yours.

The great thing about a smile is it makes everyone much happier, so why not capture your smile in a selfie- it could be a winner!

An iPhone 6S and £2,000 of UK holiday park vouchers could be yours if you submit a selfie of your smile into a Denplan competition this month after a check-up with your Denplan dentist.

All the dentists at Moreton Dental Care are Denplan dentists, so take that selfie today and upload it via the website www.denplan.co.uk . Alternatively you can share it on Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #doitforyourselfie.

We have got mobile phones and selfie sticks available at the practice should you wish to use them.

Research has shown 5.6 million selfies are taken on average each day by adults in the UK while 74% of adults worry about how their teeth look in photographs.

We at Moreton Dental Care are passionate about helping patients achieve a healthy smile they can be proud of.   We’re encouraging everyone, not only Denplan patients, to share their smile with the world.

Denplan is the UK’s leading dental payment plan provider- they’ve been helping the public budget for their private dental care for nearly 30 years. Its member dentists now provide care for around 1.7 million patients.

The Denplan plan we offer at Moreton Dental Care is called Denplan Essentials. For £13.55 a month patients get two private check-ups and two private hygiene visits per year, upto 2 x-rays and 20% off all private treatment, excluding implants and orthodontics.

Denplan membership also includes holiday insurance to cover the cost of emergency dental treatment while away from home either in the UK or abroad.

Staff gear up for our Healthy Living day next week

Dentist Tam Haque (pictured) is practising his press-ups ready for our Healthy Living Day on Tuesday (Oct 6th) when patients and non-patients will have the chance to have a physical work-out as well as a check-up- thanks to a unique initiative.

A team of health and fitness experts from Wirral Community NHS Trust's Livewell team will be visiting Moreton Dental Care to give tips and advice on a wide range of health issues, as well as offering health checks.

And staff from Upton-based Gravity Health and Fitness club will be setting up a mini gym at the practice for the morning to enable visitors to try out some exercise machines and to receive guidance on ways to improve fitness.

The aim of the event, the first of its kind to be held at a Wirral dental practice, is to promote a message of health and wellbeing to patients and the local community.

The Livewell team supports local people to make positive lifestyle changes. They run a broad range of free health and wellbeing courses and activities at venues throughout the Wirral from healthy cookery and relaxation classes to fitness and weight management programmes. Livewell also offers help to people wanting to quit smoking.

Trainers from Gravity will demonstrate fitness techniques on a range of equipment,  including rowing and cycling machines, and will be giving away free day passes to their gym on the day.

Principal dentist Dr Paul Sherrard says the event is a great opportunity to get a healthy lifestyle message across to the local community.

“We as dentists are in a unique position to discuss with patients diet and lifestyle issues that affect both teeth and the whole body. A good example is sugar which can not only damage your teeth but also lead to weight issues and diabetes,” he added.

Dr Sherrard, himself a one-time smoker, is proud of the success he has had in encouraging patients to quit the habit which can cause gum disease.

The Healthy Living event at Moreton Dental Care, Hoylake Road, will run from 9.30 to 12.30.

Be MOUTHAWARE- Mouth Cancer can affect anyone

This is hygienist Kirsty Kelly, and you might be wondering why she's wearing blue lipstick-she's being MOUTHAWARE in support of Mouth Cancer Action Month (MCAM).

Mouth Cancer claims more lives than testicular and cervical cancer put together, but early detection gives patients a 90% chance of survival.

And a check-up with the dentist is the key to early detection.

Kirsty has joined in the Blue Lip Selfie campaign which is part of this year's MCAM to enable people to wear a visible sign of support.

Mouth cancer cases have trebled in the past 10 years, and can be triggered by smoking, drinking too much alcohol, poor diet and oral sex.

MCAM is organised by the British Dental Health Foundation, with Denplan as its main sponsor.   Go to www.bluelipselfie.co.uk for more details and to see a video of mouth cancer survivors and their experiences.

A regular check-up with the dentist includes screening for mouth cancer- this is one of the many reasons why regular check-ups are so important.

So if you keep putting off booking in for your 6-month checkup, why not get on the phone today and make an appointment.

Why not visit our Facebook page for more pictures of blue-lipped staff at MDC.
