Young-at-heart Gordon delights in his new smile

Even at the age of 88 Gordon Mumford decided dentures were not for him.

When a bridge failed after 25 years he decided to take advantage of the latest dental technology- dental implants.

“It’s the best thing I’ve ever done with my money. The whole process has been absolutely wonderful, “ said the sprightly pensioner after having two dental implants fitted to secure a three-unit bridge.

Now Gordon is smiling from ear to ear, thanks to the new teeth which have restored his confidence.

He described the implant treatment as ‘painless’ from start to finish and praised staff for their support.

“Everyone here is lovely. I’m really looked after like one of the family,” said Gordon who has been a patient of the practice for 30 years.

Said Dr Sherrard: “It’s always a real joy to treat Gordon. He’s a true gentleman, always cheerful and very appreciative., and the staff all love him.”

A new dimension at Moreton Dental Care

It’s all smiles at Moreton Dental Care today- not only is it the start of National Smile Month, but also the day the practice has moved into a new dimension!

We have just had the latest in X-ray technology installed- a dental cone beam CT scanner (CBCT) - which enables us to produce highly accurate 3-D images of patients’ jaws and teeth.

MDC is one of the first practices in the area to have its own CBCT scanner and is a big step forward because its scans will provide much more information than conventional 2-D X-rays usually taken in dental practices.

It is of particular benefit for patients considering dental implants or other special procedures such as root canal treatment, because it enables our dental team to assess the exact shape of the bone.

The new machine is causing great excitement among staff and the first patients to be scanned.   They are marvelling at the clarity of the images produced from one low dose scan.

Dental radiographer Emma Eccles who has been training MDC staff how to use the scanner today, said: “The 3-D image always completely wows the patient.”

Practice principal Paul Sherrard says he will find 3-D imaging invaluable when planning dental implant cases.  Previously patients whose jaw bones needed examining in 3-D have have had to travel to Liverpool for a CT scan.

“The images are of fantastic quality and will be very helpful to diagnose difficult problems,’ said Dr Sherrard.

The images obtained by CT scanning will not only show the quality and quantity of a patient’s bone, but also most importantly the presence of anatomical structures that must be avoided.

Dental implant patient praises 'quite exceptional treatment'.

Delighted patient Marie Stacey has described her new smile as  “little short of miraculous” and says she hasn’t stopped grinning since the completion of her dental implant treatment at the practice.

Marie, 69, a former assistant director of children’s services with Wirral Education Authority, was unstinting in her praise for “the amazing level of kindness, expertise and care” shown to her by Moreton Dental Care staff who have enabled her to smile again without feeling self-conscious.

As part of Marie’s treatment Dr Paul Sherrard placed two dental implants to secure a three-unit bridge.

Marie described Dr Sherrard’s skills as “exceptional”. and added: “The level of professional care I have experienced here has been of a quality I have never had before.”

“I cannot remember a time since childhood when I haven’t felt self-conscious about my teeth. Not any longer.  They are worth every penny, and actually there is a real delight in no longer being anxious about photos.”

Marie recalled how as a post-war child and the 10th of 11 children there was little time to care for her teeth. “We all ate sweets like there was no tomorrow and dentists were regarded with terror,”she said.

“I have managed to smile without opening my mouth for years, but now I feel completely confident.  When I look at the photos of my original teeth these new teeth are little short of miraculous,” she added.

Said Dr Sherrard: “Marie has been a delight to treat, and we are all thrilled she is so pleased with the result.  We are also very grateful for her very kind words about our team. That means a great deal to us.”

Get a fresh new look for Spring

Spring is here at Moreton Dental Care,

We can help you regain your bright, youthful air!

Say farewell to frowns, lines and wrinkles...

Say hello to happy, youthful twinkles.

A particularly enthusiastic member of staff penned this ditty to promote our "Look Ten Years Younger" evening on Wednesday, April 15,

when dentist Lucy Benbow and hygienist Kirsty Kelly will make presentations about two increasing popular cosmetic treatments- facial rejuvenation and tooth-whitening.

Lucy decided to launch a facial rejuvenation service to meet demand. Some patients who had undergone cosmetic dental treatment wanted to complement their new smiles by reducing and softening facial lines and wrinkles.   Lucy provides free consultations to give patients the opportunity to fully discuss treatment options.

At Moreton Dental Care we use Evolution Bleaching-By Enlighten, a world leader in tooth-whitening which has already produced outstanding results for many people at our Wirral practice.

The key to Enlighten’s success lies in the specially designed Evolution 'super seal' trays.

Enlighten is used by many of the world’s leading dentists and by more than 1,000 in the UK

Dentist's praise for Paul Sherrard's high quality work

A dentist has highly praised the work of our principal dentist Paul Sherrard after taking over the care of a woman who had been a long-standing patient at Moreton Dental Care.

The 50-year-old woman moved house recently and was unable to get to Moreton any more so Dr Sherrard referred her to a dentist close to her new home.

The dentist contacted Dr Sherrard after the patient’s first appointment and described her dental health as  “excellent”.

He also described the quality of crowns and a bridge which had been fitted by Dr Sherrard at least 20 years ago as ‘fantastic’.

The dentist told Mr Sherrard: “She speaks very highly and fondly of the care you provided for many years.

I took some bitewings (x-rays) recently and she is in perfect dental health, no treatment has been needed.

“The quality of her restorations is fantastic and I thought you would like to know. She has no caries or periodontal disease and excellent oral hygiene.

“She can't remember how old her crowns or fixed conventional bridge are but estimates 20 to 30 years. They are in excellent condition.”

Dr Sherrard said” I’m delighted to receive such praise from a colleague, and am particularly pleased that this lady was so happy with her

treatment. It also shows how having regular check-ups is the best way to keep your mouth healthy.”

The woman attended regularly for check-ups and hygiene appointments.
